Why Should I Join Beta Theta Pi?
Brotherhood: A fraternity provides young men with a friendship base that you just can't get anywhere else. Being in a fraternity gives a much-needed break from you schoolwork to hang out and share experiences with new friends. The memories that you make in college will stay with you for the rest of your life. You will only experience college once in your life. So if you want to have memories of strong friendship and fun experiences that you will remember the rest of your life, you may want to consider joining Beta Theta Pi.
Academics: You may think that being in a fraternity might lower your grades. There is nothing further from the truth. A U.S. government study shows that 70% of all those who have joined a fraternity graduate, while only 50% of all non-fraternity students graduate. Even though fraternities are fun, we are in college for one reason, to graduate. When you join a fraternity you have fellow students who will tutor you in your classes, recommend teachers, and give you old tests to study from. And if you are undecided about a major you have the opportunity to talk with friends about majors they have chosen.
Social:Being in a fraternity is definitely fun. IFC fraternities, such as Beta Theta Pi, offer many social occasions. Socials, which are events planned with a sorority take place on the weekends. If you are into sports, Oshkosh fraternities participate in sports against one another, and at the end of the year there are sports trophies awarded. The intramural sports offered are football, softball, indoor soccer, outdoor soccer, volleyball, basketball, and bowling.
Community Service: Every year, every fraternity does a charity event for a local charity. It is usually done in a fun way, where sororities and fraternities compete in some way to raise money for a good cause. This gives you a sense of accomplishment in a way that really benefits the community. Over the past few years, we have held events to raise money for the Christine Ann Center which house mothers of domestic abuse.
Leadership Skills: A fraternity is run similarly to that of a business. There are positions in the chapter you can run for like President, Vice President, Treasurer, etc. Holding a position in the house gives you skills that you need when you get into the "real" world. These are the skills that you just can't get in the classroom. It's something that employer's respect and it looks good on a resume. Believe it or not but just being in a fraternity can get you a job if your interviewer was in one.
